What moment has defined your journey the most?
Oh wow, there’s so many. I think the turning point for me was experiencing Hurricane Katrina as a kid. I always knew I wanted to design but it is because of what my family and I went through, that I make sure my brand has such a philanthropic component to everything we do. Having our brand featured in Sports Illustrated last year was a huge turn as well because it gave us such an incredible platform. I’m grateful for all of the highs, lows, and moments in between because they keep me, personally, humble and hungry.
What drives you?
Knowing that I get to wake up and create something that a woman will want to wear to feel comfortable and sexy all while saving the planet drives me continuously. Every time I see a review or get an email or DM from a happy customer, I’m reminded of the bigger picture. For me, it’s beyond bikinis. It’s about creating something that makes someone feel confident and unstoppable but also helps save the planet.
How are you paving the way for people in your community to succeed? Or opening doors that were once closed?
I want to create a space where women of all creeds have a platform. Whether they wish to model for the brand, collaborate with their art, work as a photographer, etc. I just always want women to feel like they have a place at A+P to just create and succeed however they’d like to.
Most meaningful project to date?
Ahh definitely the collections we have coming this year as they promote incredible artists, celebrate diversity and give back in a special way to eradicate hunger. I’m so excited for all that we’re launching this year.
Advice or a mantra you would like to pass on?
Aspire to inspire before you expire or above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. I live by both.
