In A New York Minute

This past week I had the pleasure of visiting New York after what feels like a very long hiatus. My last trip to New York was in November of 2021 when I briefly visited to review the first round of samples for my Goody collab (in stores now, yay!) Since I rarely travel in the winter to cold places I thought it would be fun to bring my colorful style with me.

I was traveling solo so the main challenge was traveling light while still coming up with looks that felt unique each day. The trip was a Tuesday arrival and Friday morning departure so by my calculations I could get away with 1 travel outfit for Tuesday and Friday, 2 coats, 2 heeled boots, and a pair of sneakers for travel. As far as the outfits I needed looks for Dinner on Tuesday, Meetings on Wednesday and Thursday during the day, and 2 outfits for dinner on Wednesday and Thursday.

I hired a very talented NYC based photographer Daniel Pierre-Louis to capture the looks. It would have been impractical to shoot an outfit each day so I ended up shooting them all on Wednesday in between the meetings and dinner which resulting in me tossing 4 outfits on in the span of 1 hour, I can’t believe what we were able to accomplish in that time.

The weather was in the 30s for most of my trip and I survived it with minimal layers and cold weather accessories, which I do not recommend because I definitely needed gloves.

I believe self expression and originality is what sets us free. I remember the days I was concerned with blending in, afraid to be deemed “over-dressed” and not secure enough to handle any attention that standing out may bring. I remember needing permission to dress up, I remember dressing for my mood instead or dressing to influence my mood. The shift that has come from finding my style, embodying my higher self, and not being afraid to stand out has been so transformative. Now I’ve seen that those things I used to worry about are so insignificant and I actually have the power to inspire others by showing up as my full self. The self discovery that came first is a direct correlation to my art and style.
